Check out these pictures! Some were taken by budding photographers Jordan and Dekota at the last big work night. It is officially a week and a day until the wrap-up celebration for the community garden. (Tuesday Aug. 5, 5:00-6:30 mark your calendars!) But yikes, that means we have a LOT to get done in one week. If you've seen the lot recently, you'll have noticed our beautiful arrangements of rebar and twine. Like it? Just kidding! It will hopefully NOT be the end result. If all goes according to plan, we should have the garden beds built tonight, the millings and woodchips delivered on Wednesday, the garages painted and the shed placed sometime this week, and the landscaping planted on Friday. We got all the plants picked out at Graham's Greenhouse, and not to brag but they are pretty nice plants. A giant thanks to everyone who helped build the fence, and the kids at the CLC who painted some great birdhouses (and to Bob Harris of course for building them). As you can see, we'll need lots of help this week so if you're interested, please contact us. Also, there are still 4 garden beds up for grabs, and we're planning to hold a meeting for the future gardeners on Wednesday night.

quick update

It's kind of funny because we now have a sign out front on the lot that says "Community Garden" to notify people of what's going on, but it still looks like a bunch of dirt! However, we will be working diligently to get the beds built by next week, with any luck. Yesterday we blasted some paint off of the adjacent garages with Steve Cavallaro's pressure washer, and today we will be having another work day to get the new fencing installed. That's 4-6! Stop by and join in! Also, providing this fantastic sunny weather continues, we'll be able to get a backhoe in and finish grading off the site. Mud has been the main roadblock in moving forward because the machinery sinks right in, but it looks like we're into a drier weather pattern, so, excellent.
Again, 4-6 on the lot! We look forward to seeing you there.

just had our first community work day

Thanks to everyone who worked on the lot with us tonight, considerable progress has been made. The site was leveled a bit more, weeds were whacked, rubble was hauled, holes were dug, fence posts were set, peeling paint was chipped, and junky playground toys were cleared. It looks so much better, especially in the play area. Gaby, Lisa's 5 year old daughter, gave it her approval. Josh gave me the idea of starting a blog for the garden, so hopefully I'll be able to flesh this out a bit more and put the CAD drawing and many photos on here. It looks like we'll be having another work day probably next Tuesday, and Rachel will be there this time, yay! Please let us know if it's a bad time because we'll be having more and more sessions in the coming weeks. Again, our sincere gratitude to everyone who helped out, adults and kids alike! You guys are great.
